St. Peter Staff

Meet our staff

Joel Spaude | Pastor

Pastor Joel Spaude’s training to be a Lutheran pastor included four years of college followed by four years of Seminary training which he finished in 1990. He then served as a missionary in Zambia, Africa for six years and then as a missionary in Malawi, Africa for five years. In 2001 Pastor Spaude came to St. Peter Lutheran church in Fort Collins and has been a pastor there ever since. Pastor brings God’s Word to our community through preaching and teaching in a variety of ways. He leads worship and preaches the sermon in each of the services, and teaches several different Bible classes throughout the week.

Along with the Adult Bible Study that accompanies the worship services, he leads a weekly Women’s Bible Study, teaches Bible Information Classes (BIC) throughout the year, and leads Family Life Workshops several times a year. Pastor Spaude offers basic Christian counseling and visits his members when they are in the hospital to bring them the comfort of God’s Word. He also tries to have a casual visit with each member every year to stay connected. Pastor Spaude married his wife, Brenda, in 1988 and they have 4 children all in their twenties and 1 grandchild. They enjoy camping and hiking together, and he also fishes and hunts when he has spare time.

Allison Turner | Secretary

Allison was steered out to Colorado, a place she dreamed about living in pretty much her whole life, in 2012 with her husband after he completed his service in the Army. She grew up in Wisconsin and went to college in Minnesota, nurturing her love/hate relationship with the Midwest.

Allison wears many hats at St. Peter; the main one being secretary. Her tasks include creating the bulletin, becoming proficient with the copier, annoying other staff members, and assisting Little Lambs Preschool.

In her free time, Allison spends every second she can hiking in the mountains with her husband (Alex), energetic little son (Gunnison), and furry dog (Cola). Camping, tiny houses, nutrition, chocolate, and Leinenkugel’s are her favorite things.

Dan Kleist | Staff minister

Dan Kleist grew up as a PK (Pastor's Kid) in suburban Chicago during the good ol' days of the Jordan Era. He graduated from Luther Prep, one of the WELS funded high schools, and attended two years at Martin Luther College, our college of ministry, before pursuing a degree in Recreation and Resource Management. Years of working in the outdoors led him to realize that he placed a higher value on working with people and creating community, especially in a context that would support their faith. God gave him the opportunity to serve at St. Peter in this way when they called him to be a part-time Staff Minister. He’s now re-enrolled at Martin Luther College in the Staff Ministry Certification program – almost as if God had planned it all along!

Dan is involved in several of St Peter’s ministries, none of which would be possible without the help of wonderful members who joyfully serve their Savior alongside him. He helps incorporate new members into the life and ministry of the congregation, leads the Young Adults (20's/30's) group at St Peter as well as a regional WELS 20's/30's group "Rooted", serves our college students through Campus Ministry, leads the 5th-8th grade Youth Group, oversees Children's Ministry activities, coordinates various workshops for our members and community, and creates opportunities for members to get together throughout the year.

When Dan's not at church events or meetings he's either trying to get friends together, exploring local breweries, or spending time in the mountains hiking, camping, climbing, and enjoying God's beautiful creation – and usually some combination of the above :)
